Ocean City, NJ Boardwalk Project

Ocean City, N.J. — Fred M. Schiavone Construction will be working on the fifth and final phase of a $3.4 million, five-year boardwalk reconstruction project between 5th and 12th streets here. Schiavone has finished phases 1, 2 and 4 of the project, which included replacement of boardwalk substructure and decking, ADA ramps and new pavilions.

Rebuilding of the boardwalk between 10th and 12th streets is slated to begin Oct. 2017.

Made from 3-inch thick southern yellow pine, the new planks are about twice the thickness of traditional boardwalk planks. Sections of decking are constructed off-site for maximum efficiency, and the Schiavone crew lowers them into place with a crane.

The project work runs only in the off-season and will continue through 2018, with boardwalk ramps between 8th and 12th streets getting done from 2018-19.
